China on Wednesday called on the Netherlands to correct what it described as “mistakes” in its handling of semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia, a Netherlands-based subsidiary of the Chinese company Wingtech.
In a statement, China’s Ministry of Commerce said the Dutch government has ignored China’s concerns and continues to pursue its own course, showing a lack of responsibility toward the security of the global semiconductor supply chain and failing to take any concrete actions.
In September, the Dutch government took control over aspects of Nexperia, saying the move was intended to prevent the company’s founder from transferring sensitive technologies and production capabilities to China.
Beijing responded by blocking the export of Nexperia’s chips, most of which are packaged in China. Since then, Dutch Minister for Economic Affairs Vincent Karremans has defended the intervention, stressing that the decision was made on the grounds of national and industrial security.
