On April 14, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that China and the European Union are the world’s second and third largest economies, respectively. Together, their economic output accounts for over one-third of global GDP, and their trade volume exceeds one-quarter of global trade. Both China and the EU are advocates of economic globalization and trade liberalization, as well as staunch defenders and supporters of the World Trade Organization.

EU leaders have emphasized that the sound operation of the global economy requires stability and certainty. Both the EU and China are committed to upholding a fair and free multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core, and to ensuring the healthy and stable development of global economic and trade relations. This aligns with the shared interests of both sides and the wider international community.

As a responsible major country, China has taken—and will continue to take—firm measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the international community, including the EU, to share development opportunities, expand openness and cooperation, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. This not only serves to protect the interests of all parties involved, but also jointly upholds international trade rules and fairness and justice.
