BNR Radio reported on January 1 that the Dutch automotive market saw significant growth in 2024, with a remarkable surge in electric vehicle sales. The sales of fully electric vehicles reached a record high, with 132,000 units sold, representing a 16% increase compared to 2023. Meanwhile, hybrid vehicles performed even better, with 160,000 registrations throughout the year, capturing nearly 42% of the market share. In contrast, the market share of traditional gasoline cars dropped to just below 22%, while diesel vehicles maintained a minimal 1% share.
In terms of brands, Kia emerged as the best-selling automotive brand in the Netherlands in 2024, delivering 35,000 units. Volvo followed closely, securing second place by a narrow margin, while Toyota ranked third. Although Tesla did not rank among the top three brands in overall sales, its Model Y remained the best-selling vehicle of 2024, with 19,000 units sold, solidifying the brand’s leadership. The Kia Niro and Volvo EX30 ranked second and third, respectively, with minimal differences in their sales figures.
